Substitute Backstage Manager - Seattle

Overview: The Substitute Backstage Manager fills-in for Backstage Staff on an as-needed basis. The Backstage Manager works the show and helps with daily production issues, assisting the Production Stage Manager by being on headset during the show, overseeing and performing all stage moves, does simple prop repairs and ensures that all artists have the necessary props. This person also takes notes and provides a list of all prop needs, and keep the backstage area organized. Four days of training with the permanent Backstage Manager will be provided before the Substitute Backstage Manager assumes the primary role; usually one week of employment at a time (not including training). Hours are 3pm-11pm Wednesday through Friday. Candidates be in good physical condition and able to lift 50lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for prop related needs of artists & musicians, in communication with stage manager and technical director
  • Runs the backstage portion of the show
  • Organizes all props in the backstage area
  • Understands and is proactive in troubleshooting all safety needs, particularly flying safety for artists

Qualifications

  • Backstage and prop management experience
  • Knowledge of technical production
  • Ability to take complete, detailed and organized notes
  • Self directed, creative problem solver
  • Respect for artists and running crew
  • Organized, with an excellent eye for detail
  • Good physical condition
  • Remains calm under pressure

Best known for regular evening three-hour performances that blend cirque, comedy and cabaret served up with a five-course gourmet meal, Teatro ZinZanni performances now include 90-minute Sweet Sunday Brunches, late night Mezzo Lunatico experiences, the special children's' program Zirkus Fantazmo, and Camp ZinZanni, a summer education program for kids ages 5 to 16. In 2011, Teatro Zinzanni is an independent non-profit arts organization. Teatro ZinZanni presents a full evening of entertainment, combining cirque artists and clowns, European cabaret singers, opera singers and jugglers with live music and a gourmet five-course meal. Set in an antique jewel box tent imported from Belgium, Teatro ZinZanni is located in the heart of Seattle Center's Theatre District.
