POSITION SUMMARY

Primary cutter, draper and patternmaker for Teatro ZinZanni during build periods. A high level of independent judgment, initiative and problem solving skills are necessary.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Interprets Design Director's research, concept development and/or renderings.
  • Drapes, patterns, cuts and sews costumes to be constructed and/or supervises these tasks.
  • Fits patterned costumes and alters patterns as necessary and/or supervises these tasks.
  • In collaboration with Design Director, determines materials list for garment needs.
  • In collaboration with Design Director, determines garment construction procedures.
  • Supervises and instructs stitching team towards designated deadlines.
  • Oversees preparation of existing costumes for Changeovers.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Four years related experience in garment construction.
  • Excellent sewing, cutting, draping, patterning, costume construction and repair skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills. Working knowledge of theatrical production.
  • Team player willing to do whatever it takes, or knows where to get answers.
  • Clear, focused communicator both verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent people skills.
  • Basic computer skills including E-mail and Word.

  • Consistent proactive planning and problem solving.
  • Seeks direction, when appropriate, to best achieve design intent.
  • Strong and present leadership. Able to be on-time and lead costume production decision-making.
  • On-going ability to understand and monitor overall production targets.
  • Provides diplomatic support for designer, director and performer needs.

WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT: Works in a theatrical environment. Must be able to stand for eight hours and regularly bend and move body. Position requires the ability to lift materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Must be able to regularly use hands and fingers as required for drawing, sewing and a computer. Must be able to speak and write in English; and talk and hear. Schedule is dependent on period being filled for Changeover. Primary Shop schedule is Tuesday through Saturday 10:00am - 6:00pm. Schedule will vary according to rehearsal schedule needs. Opening Week; Monday is a workday. Schedule will vary according to tech schedule and rehearsal needs.

SHOW SUMMARY: Since its opening, Teatro ZinZanni has been delighting audiences with its swirling stream of performance, music and comedy presented in the elegance and intimate comfort of an antique Belgian spiegeltent or mirror tent. Best known for regular evening three-hour performances that blend cirque, comedy and cabaret served up with a five-course gourmet meal, Teatro ZinZanni performances now include 90-minute Sweet Sunday Brunches, late night Mezzo Lunatico experiences, the special children's' program Zirkus Fantazmo, and Camp ZinZanni, a summer education program for kids ages 5 to 16. In 2011, Teatro Zinzanni is an independent non-profit arts organization. Teatro ZinZanni presents a full evening of entertainment, combining cirque artists and clowns, European cabaret singers, opera singers and jugglers with live music and a gourmet five-course meal. Set in an antique jewel box tent imported from Belgium, Teatro ZinZanni is located in the heart of Seattle Center's Theatre District.
